Coulson Aviation Chinooks Refilling and Extinguishing Multiple Fires in California

This video gives a real bird’s eye view of two Chinooks working together, with the capacity to hold and drop up to 3000 gallons each.

The operational tactics on this fire in California last summer (2021/2022) was to extinguish the hard spots where the ground fire assets couldn’t get to.  

There’s a quick turn around in the sky with big water, and the ability to maximize both air and ground resources.  

The Coulson Chinook is a fast, high volume Very Large Helitanker (VLHT) with the ability to undertake operations day and night.  

These ex-military helicopters are specially repurposed for firefighting, and are one of the world’s largest heavy lift helicopters.
